About Unix Time
Unix time (also known as Epoch time or POSIX time) is a system for describing a point in time. It is defined as the number of seconds that have elapsed since the Unix Epoch, minus leap seconds.
The Unix Epoch is 00:00:00 UTC on Thursday, 1 January 1970.
Why is it important?
- Standard way to track time across different systems and file formats.
- Timezone independent (always UTC), making it easier to sync global logs.
- Compact storage (just an integer) compared to string dates.
